Julian Opie est né à Londres en 1958. Le travail de cet artiste contemporain diplômé du Goldsmith College a très tôt rencontré un vif succès dans le monde de l’Art. Il a également encouragé et influencé de plus jeunes artistes comme Damien Hirst.Outre une exposition permanente à la Tate Modern de Londres Julian Opie fait l’objet de nombreuses expositions à travers le monde (Galerie Lisson Italy The Pace gallery China National Portrait Gallery United-Kingdom).Ses œuvres à supports multiples se caractérisent par des formes extrêmement minimalistes.Il crée des corps des portraits des paysages à partir de photographies scannées par ordinateur. Une fois l’image scannée il en redessine les contours par de larges traits noirs. Les détails du sujet sont réduits à l’extrême. Les formes sont ensuite remplies d’aplats de couleurs.Peintures sculptures films d’animation…les résultats peuvent varier à l’infini selon les désirs de l’artiste.Les œuvres de Julian OPIE nous démontrent qu’il nous suffit de peu pour former notre notion de la représentation. La réalité est réduite à des traits et des aplats de couleurs souvent vives.
