Jordy Kerwick est né en 1982 à Melbourne. Il vit et travaille à Albi, dans le sud-ouest de la France. Personnage hors norme et généreux, Jordy Kerwick nous plonge dans un univers folklorique rempli de récits autobiographiques et de contes de fées. Ses compositions sont joyeuses, colorées et brutes. Denses et empâtées, elles représentent des portraits obsédants, des natures mortes composées de cobras, tigres ou licornes aux accents cubistes ou des œuvres plus abstraites et gestuelles dans la veine de Franz Kline ou Cy Twombly. L'artiste s'inspire des natures mortes historiques, des dessins ou des jeux de ses deux enfants, de la littérature et de la musique. La pratique de Jordy Kerwick englobe une gamme de matériaux tels que l'émail, l'acrylique, l'huile, l'aérographe, le graphite et le fusain. Autodidacte, il s’est rapidement retrouvé au centre d’un succès international. Avec de nombreuses expositions à Melbourne, Londres, New York, Tokyo ou Paris, son travail fait également partie de grandes collections publiques et privées, comme le Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia à Madrid, la collection Blanca et Borja Thyssen-Bornemisza, ou encore le Bunker Art Foundation à Miami. En 2023, une exposition personnelle au Musée Thyssen-Bornemisza à Madrid lui est consacré. Jordy Kerwick is born in 1982 in Melbourne. He lives and works in Albi, in the southwest of France. A unique and generous personality, Jordy Kerwick immerses us in a folkloric universe filled with autobiographical narratives and fairy tales. His compositions are joyful, colorful, and raw. Dense and textured, they depict haunting portraits, still lifes composed of cobras, tigers, or unicorns with cubist accents, or more abstract and gestural works in the vein of Franz Kline or Cy Twombly. The artist draws inspiration from historical still lifes, drawings or games of his two children, literature, and music. Kerwick's practice encompasses a range of materials such as enamel, acrylic, oil, airbrush, graphite, and charcoal. Self-taught, he quickly found himself at the center of international success. With numerous exhibitions in Melbourne, London, New York, Tokyo, or Paris, his work is also part of major public and private collections, such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Blanca and Borja Thyssen-Bornemisza collection, or the Bunker Art Foundation in Miami. In 2023, a solo exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid was dedicated to him.
