Annie Ernaux, Passion Simple

"Thanks to him, I got closer to the limit that separates me from the other, to the point of sometimes imagining crossing it.
I was measuring time in a different way, with my whole body.
I discovered what one can be capable of, in other words, of anything. Sublime or mortal desires, lack of dignity, beliefs and behaviors that I found insane in others until I didn't use them myself. Unbeknownst to him, he connected me more to the world."

From time immemorial, men and women have sought in Love the filling of a lack, the possibility of an encounter with the other.
Sensuality, attachment, impulses, pleasure have thus inspired the artist in his quest to translate the intrinsic relationship between the desire of the body and the passion of love. The title of this group show is borrowed from Annie Ernaux, Nobel Prize in Literature for 2022. Passion, as devouring as it is desirable, appears as a universal artistic questioning, between subjection and liberating force. Through these forty works, the gallery offers a panorama of amorous variations, ranging from joyful passion to deep melancholy, from modest tenderness to sexual attraction. And thanks to colorimetry (especially passion red), symbols from ancient or contemporary mythology, hedonistic or romantic representations, the visual arts are a sincere and touching way of expressing feelings of love.
In February 2023, rue du Mail, for this month placed under the sign of love, art is passionate!
