Né à Lübeck (Allemagne) en 1935 dans une famille particulièrement sensible aux arts, Peter Klasen, après des études à l' Ecole Supérieure de Beaux-Arts de Berlin, s'installe à Paris en 1959. Pionnier de la Figuration Narrative, il développe d'une façon obsessionnelle et critique son vocabulaire pictural à travers l' appropriation de la photographie et de l’esthétique industrielle.
L'oeuvre de Klasen, liée à la réalité contemporaine de nos grandes cités, constitue par le regard aigu et implacable qu'elle porte sur le monde, un témoignage significatif de notre environnement urbain et social. Ses thèmes favoris sont liés à l’aliénation de l’individu, de son isolement (Vereinzelung) dans le contexte coercitif de nos sociétés actuelles. People in the city l’exposition de Peter Klasen à la galerie Laurent Strouk du 15 mai au 13 juin 2009 marque un nouveau pas de la représentation de l’homme dans son environnement quotidien. Dans ces images photographiques captées dans le contexte urbain et industriel émergent des personnages fragilisés et menacés où se confrontent des fragments d’image du corps et d’objets industriels. L’exposition s’inscrit dans la continuité de la série Cars and Girls Flash back (Milan, octobre 2008) et Frozen light (Houston, mars 2009).

Born in Lübeck (Germany) in 1935 in a particularly sensitive family, Peter Klasen after studies at the Ecole Supérieure de Beaux-Arts in Berlin, moved to Paris in 1959. Pioneer of the Figuration Narrative, he develops in an obsessive and critical way his pictorial vocabulary to through the appropriation of photography and industrial aesthetics. Klasen's work is linked to the contemporary reality of our great cities constitutes by the sharp and implacable glance that it carries on the world a significant testimony of our urban and social environment. His themes are linked to the alienation of the individual from his isolation (Vereinzelung) in the coercive context of our current societies. People in the city, the exhibition of Peter Klasen at the Laurent Strouk gallery from May 15 to June 13, 2009 marks a new step in the representation of of man in his daily environment. In these images captured in the urban and industrial context emerge fragile and threatened characters where fragments of the human being are confronted of body image and industrial objects. The exhibition is a continuation of the series Cars and Girls Flash back (Milan, October 2008) and Frozen light (Houston, March 2009).
